Game #18

Game #17

Game #16

Saturdays game from what I heard was great with the team playing extremly well even though it was wet and cold. Great effort guys.  Player of the Day on Saturday was Harrison with 3 great tries.

Game #10

Player of the day was Ethan who was always in the thick of it doing some great rips. The game went well and was played in good conditions. We out numbered MSP so Cade Watson and Griffin Macmillan volunteered and played a half each for MSP. The score was 10 to the Darth Vaders and 6 to MSP Stormers. Cody Lokotui and Reuben Sara had 4 tries each and Vegas Hogg got 2. All the boys played well and as the season has gone on they are really coming to terms with passing behind and also keeping the ball in play. Last weeks practice in the gym was a good one which really got the boys into the mood for running and backing up for Saturdays effort. Good work guys.

Lua's Tip of the Week

7 key defence tips:

1   Get organised quickly

2   Communicate

3   Move forward

4   Have good technique

5   Be committed

6   Be flexible

7   Be supportive of each other

It is always important to keep your eyes on the target area (the person with the ball).

Good luck for your game on Saturday.

Game #9

[Saturdays game was physical with some fantastic runs by all of the boys and was played in great conditions despite the forecast. Trys were scored by Henry Christie, Cade Watson, Reuben Sara with 2, Vegas Hogg with 3 and Cody Lokotui with 3 also. Despite this we lost by a narrow margin due to an outstanding player from the magpies who had a definite size advantage over our boys and seemed to score nearly all of their trys. A special thanks goes to Henry for volunteering to play for the Magpies in the first half and for saving his try scoring moves for the second half when he returned to the Darth Vaders.

Game #8

Saturdays game was close and overall our defensive play has been improving. The game was played in one of the few sunny days we have had lately.
Player of the day was Cody Lokotui. Cody has been performing well all season to date, however his combination of defence and attacking play meant he was most deserved. Reuben also had a great game running in four trys along with Cody's four trys. Harrison also scored a great try and as a result of this and the rest of the teams good work we had a narrow win of 9 trys to 8 against the MSP Cyclones.

Game #7

cancelled

Game #6

Saturdays game was played in great sunny & warm conditions against a well drilled Johnsonville team called the Cheetahs. Contrary to some of the boys suggestions regarding the name, they played well and fairly. After being led out on to the field by Captain Vegas Hogg (who also got player of the day), we opened up the scoring with a try from Cade Watson. The game was tight with alot of great running from both sides. After alot of tooing and frooing we narrowly lost by 45 to 55. Overall it was a great running game where the boys all appeared to be having fun.

Good points to come out of the game were that both sides used the sidestep to good effect with Reuben Sara, Harrison Smith, Oskar Beres and Cody Lokotui doing very well in this area. Thomas Christie had some great runs, running straight and fast making some great ground for the team and making great progress since the beginning of the season.. Once again Cody did some good try saving rips which we need to get the rest of the team to focus on this next practice.  Ethan Cornish, Henry Christie and Griffin Mc Millan also had good runs and showed good enthusiasm.

Player of the day was Vegas for his outstanding effort to get 4 tries. Also Cody was identified as one of our stand out players by Johnsonville who awarded Cody with their own Blue Ribbon as their Player of the Day as they saw him as their greatest threat on the field.  Good work Cody and Vegas.

Game #5
Congratulations for your win on the weekend. A special mention to Cade Watson for his player of the day award.

Tip of the week:

Reinforce passing - it is important to learn the difference between the control hand (usually the hand you write with) and the guide hand (other hand). The control hand is the hand used to rotate and push the ball towards the target. The guide hand is the hand which the ball rests on.

On defence reinforce keeping your eyes on the target area (tags/rips).

Good Luck for the game on Saturday.

Game #4
Lua's Tip  -

Always make sure that the player who has the ball passes behind and that supporting players on either side of him always talk to who ever has the ball to tell him which side he is on...eg left or right...

The objective of this tip is communication. This is a key skill that a player must be able to demonstrate.

Also, while on defence make sure the defensive player has his eyes on the rips and targets the rips not the runner or the ball.

Game 4 captained by Cody L was at Ian Galoway park. It was played in overcast conditions and a bit of wind. Fortunately the drizzle held off. The game was tight, with try for try being scored by each team, however because of some awesome try saving rips by the captain Cody, the game was saved and we won by a narrow margin.

The tries this week were scored by Reuben and Oskar with 2, Cody with 2 and Cade with 2. Cade also got player of the day with a stella run of pretty much the length of the field for one of his tries.

Other positives to come out of the game were some great rips from all the boys and some fantastic backing up thanks to practicing Lua's tips.

Game #3

Last weeks game was positive with good play all round although the Wolves appeared a little bit better organised on the field. Unfortunately we just lost this one despite some awesome running play with some great backing up by the Darth Vaders. This week at practise we will emphasise this some more and build on the good work being done in this area.

Henry Christie got player of the day with some great rips and good general play. All the boys did a great job especially as the weather turned suddenly from warm and sunny, to cold and wet in the second half. Good work for soldiering on and the final whistle came at the right time as a few were getting a little cold toward the end. Also a special welcome to Ethan Cornish who has joined the team and had his first game on Saturday. Thanks to Harrison Smith for taking him under his wing and explaining the rules to him at training last Friday.

Game #2

The game was very evenly matched with a draw and both teams played really well. Reuben got player of the day with some fantastic runs and good general play. Reuben was supported by all the boys who did great job of keeping the energy levels and motivation up well into the second half even though it was such a high scoring free flowing game.

Special mention does need to be noted for Cody who was all over the field performing a huge number of rips, saving quite a few trys as well a number of trys as well.
