| Game X - Win vs Poneke Allygators |
|
Captain: Curtis Mellsop Player of the Day: Brewerton McKee We scraped through to a pretty ugly win, reminiscent of the All Whites. Another slow start, unlike the All Whites, which left us behind at half time, but a solid second half and some more great runs by Brewerton and Toby saw us score a few great tries. Our ripping was not as good as it has been in recent games, so this needs to be a real focus for this Saturday, everyone has a target of 10 rips each for the game. Another thing we worked on at practise was to stay onside after a rip, everyone must retreat back onside after a rip, otherwise we will begin to get penalised. All that said, fantastic to still be unbeaten this late in the season, and the enthusiasm of the team at training and the games is a joy to watch. Early to bed on Friday night for everyone, particularly if you are up watching the All Whites the night before, as another away game so an early start on Saturday. Mark and Mical |
| Game IX - Win vs Wests Vipers |
|
Captain: Harry Kidd Player of the Day: Harry Kidd Probably one of our best games on Saturday, well captained by the player of the day Harry Kidd. The West’s team we played were one of the top of the grade and despite difficult conditions and a tough first half we came through with a great win. Everyone contributed, Toby was our top try scorer with 4 tries and two great ones which had him running the length of the field. We also had great defence – Elliot Bacon and Archie Treadwell both ran themselves to a stop with well over 12 rips each. Most of all this was a team effort with everyone staying onside, passing backwards, supporting the ball carrier and ripping. This was a great game guys and it showed our better fitness and commitment to win. Well done. Mark and Mical |

Game VIII - Win vs Wests Sharks |
|
Captain: Lewie Harland Player of the Day: Curtis Melsop Great game on Saturday by the rippas . Some good running by all and plenty of tries . We are learning to support the ball carrier and realising there is opportunity to get more runs by good support play. The defence was good but a slightly slow start . Some great rips by all and Curtis pulled off really vital rips to save some tries just when we needed it. Harry was also prominent with ball in hand and showed us that lethal sidestep he has. Pity we don,t kick conversions because Harry would definitely be our Dan Carter with the boot. Mark and Mical |
| Game VI - Win vs MSP Stormers |
|
Captain: William Fox Player of the Day: William Fox Another great game last week, some great tries and rips, and of course another win. What was best though was the support play and following up. We scored some great tries that went from one end of the field to the other with quick passing as soon as someone got ripped, and no hesitation in passing to the first and closest player. It was really great to see what we have be learning at practise being applied in the game. William Fox was a clear standout though, scoring four tries. Harry also scored a great try, his first of the season. Well done guys, we are really playing well, keep it up. Mark and Mical |
| Game IV - Win vs MSP Cyclones |
|
Captain: Freddie Dossor Player of the Day: Elliot Bacon A good running game and once again a great second half to bring in the win. A stand out performance from Elliot with 4 tries and some great swerving runs, reminiscent of Bruce Robertson in the 70’s. Curtis, through some fantastic following up took a pass and ran into the corner to get his first try of the season and followed that up with a couple of more great runs. Toby, William, Brereton and Lewie all had a good running game, showing excellent passing and following up. We were not so good this week on our ripping as we did let a couple of their players run through us – so we need to be sure to all come up in a line and not let them through it. Well Done Mark and Mical |

Game III - Win vs Jville Cheetahs |
|
Captain: Toby Bates Player of the Day: Toby Bates Well, another good effort by all. It is clear that our passing is improving as too is having all players onside, which is great. Another tight match with saw us behind in the first half, but our characteristic strong second half saw us battle our way to a good win. We had a lot of good performances – with strong running again from Brereton, Lewie, Toby, William and Oliver. Some fantastic rips, with the rip of the day going to Harry who saved a try in the far corner with a great dive. All in all another strong performance, what is also tremendous is our ability to play a strong second half and come back from behind to win. Toby deserved player of the day, as he was a great captain, like Elliot the previous week, as in the dying minutes, with an injury he lead by example and managed to score a great try rallying the team to a win. Oliver was awarded player of the day by the other team – for his all round good play. Mark and Mical |
| Game II - Win vs Wests Pythons |
|
Captain: Elliot Bacon Player of the Day: Oliver Simpson Well, a great game on Saturday against the West Pythons, probably our closest game to date with the final score of 10-9 to us. All round great performances with strong running from Lewie, Oliver, Archie Treadwell and Elliot. Harry had a fantastic penetrating 40 metre run in the final minutes to set up what was to be the match winning try, then there was our Captain Elliot who scored the penultimate try with a weaving run through many would be defenders and inspiring the team on. On defence Oliver and Toby both saved a runaway try by chasing a player 60 metres for a great rip. Our new players William and Curtis both had some good runs and enthusiastic rips. What was also very pleasing was the amount of passing (all backwards) leading to end to end tries and a flowing game. Well done. Lewie was awarded player of the day by the other side. Keep up the practising at home Mark and Mical |
| Wednesday Practise |
|
An ok training for the team, this week was all about passing.
The boys are still pretty excited so getting them all to listen and follow instructions is a little challenging – hopefully will improve through the season. No specific culprits, maybe worth mentioning at the right time to get them all to listen at practise.
This week is a home game again at Hataitai Park at 9am against Wests Pythons, so hope to see you all around 8.45am.
Like last year we have a Canterbury top with the club and team logo available, they are $45 each and start at size 8. We need to have our order in by next week, so let me know by return if you are keen and what size – as the weather gets worse they are good.
We will have new jerseys this week as well, so please bring the old one I handed out last week and we will swap it for a new one on Saturday before the game.
See you on Saturday

| Game I - Win vs Newlands Lions |
|
Captain: Archie Anderson Player of the Day: Archie Treadwell A great first game. Welcome to the new players - Harry, Lewie, Curtis, William, and Brereton. It took us all a while to get back into the swing of things, but after a while we were away. Some great tries from Elliot, Archie T, Archie A, Freddie, Lewie and Toby. Then in the second half we had some surperb defence from everyone. Will need to make sure we continue to rip, and stay on side in the coming weeks. Oliver always impresses us with his never give up attitude when after a rip. Archie Treadwell had a fantastic game with three tries and lots of determined rips - a great start to the 2010 season. Well done everyone. See you at Training on Wednesday. Mark and Mical |
